Waste Industries merges with Alpine Waste & Recycling

Alpine Waste & Recycling operates the Altogether Recycling MRF in Denver.

Waste Industries, Raleigh, North Carolina, has finalized its merger with Alpine Waste & Recycling, a solid waste collection and recycling company based in Denver.

Alpine represents Waste Industries’ first strategic move outside of its East Coast footprint since the company’s founding in 1970. (Read the August 2017 Recycling Today cover story on Alpine Waste & Recycling at www.RecyclingToday.com/article/alpine-waste-recycling-profile.)

A vertically integrated company, Alpine Waste & Recycling provides residential and commercial collection services and operates its Altogether Recycling material recovery facility (MRF) and a landfill. The company will become the new Waste Industries’ West Region, with founder John Griffith serving as the company’s west regional vice president.

Waste Industries is a regional provider of nonhazardous solid waste collection, transfer, recycling and disposal services. It currently operates in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware and employees roughly 2,500 people.

Waste Industries Chairman and CEO Ven Poole comments, “We identified Alpine early on as a very high-quality company with a very familiar corporate culture focused on its customers, employees and community. We look forward to helping Alpine expand its product offerings in Colorado while also bringing their expertise in sustainability to the Waste Industries platform. This merger represents a true win-win for all stakeholders.”

Waste Industries says Alpine’s focus on sustainability was a key factor in the merger. Alpine provides customers with Automated Sustainability Reports, which detail their sustainability efforts compared with their goals and their peers. This tracking system synergizes with Waste Industries’ community impact initiatives.

Griffith says, “In looking at potential partners, we saw Waste Industries as a perfect fit with Alpine. Their commitment to the customer, their employees and the communities in which they do business mirrors our own.”
