Ulm, Germany-based Wieland, a leading supplier of semifinished copper and copper alloy products, has announced that it has acquired Marjan Inc., with locations in Waterbury, Connecticut, and Montgomery, Illinois, and Nasco Inc., which is headquartered in Waterbury. The purchase expands Wieland into the hot-dip tinning sector in North America.
Regarding the purchases, Greg Keown, president of Wieland Metal Services, says they complement Wieland Metal Services, broadening “the customer base already served by Wieland’s global distribution network,” initiating the company’s strategic expansion into hot-dip tinning in North America and bringing the company “closer to the end-user of our products.”
Wieland Metal Services, headquartered in Warwick, Rhode Island, is a processor and distributor of copper and copper alloy sheet, strip and foil; aluminum sheet; and coated aluminum products. Wieland Metal Services is the new name of A.J. Oster and Alumet Supply following Wieland Group’s merger with Global Brass and Copper last year.
Marjan offers a range of hot-dip tin coatings to its global customer base, while Nasco provides specialized toll slitting services to its customers within the United States. The companies will transition over the coming months, and the new entity will operate as Wieland Marjan, according to a news release issued by Wieland.
Wieland says the acquisitions stem from its pursuit of specific growth opportunities, including this transaction implementing tinning capabilities across its existing North American, European and Asian operations. It also builds on recent momentum from the 2019 merger with Global Brass and Copper Holdings Inc. and other strategic deals.
The Wieland-Marjan transaction closed July 31.
