Wausau Paper Offers Sustainability Reporting Guide

Paper company’s guide stems from requests for recycled-content paper as sustainability marker.

Wausau Paper, Wausau, Wis., has issued a publication called “The Art of Sustainability Reporting,” which it says offers companies information, best practices and inspiration for producing effective corporate sustainability reports (CSRs).

CSRs are defined by Wausau Paper as reports through which companies share information with shareholders and stakeholders about the progress they are making on economic, social, philanthropic and environmental goals.

Wausau Paper compiled data and research on sustainability reporting from several organizations, including the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), KPMG, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Green Seal and the Sustainable Investment Research Analyst Network (SIRAN) to produce its publication.

“We have seen an increase in demand for our papers for sustainability reporting and we saw an opportunity to share some of the industry’s best practices with others that are just starting their first venture into sustainability reports,” says Jeff Fox, director of marketing for Wausau Paper. “At Wausau Paper, we believe it is our responsibility to help our customers produce not only beautiful, but effective and environmentally-conscious printed pieces,” he adds, noting that the company’s sustainable paper products can be ideal for printed CSRs.

“The Art of Sustainability Reporting” features case studies of Fortune 500 companies and other information. Wausau Paper says readers will learn:
• the difference between the commonly confused annual report and CSR
• the ingredients of a sustainability report
• reasons to produce a CSR
• how CSRs can enhance the triple bottom line: planet, people and profit
• what readers want to see in CSRs
• what “green washing” is and how to avoid it
• how often CSRs should be produced; and
• tips for producing both digital and printed CSRs.

“The Art of Sustainability Reporting” is printed on Wausau Paper Royal Fiber and Royal Resource papers. Both types of paper contain 30 percent post-consumer fiber papers, with Royal Resource also carrying a new white sheet that is 100 percent recycled post-consumer fiber, according to Wausau Paper.
