Waste Management has announced that its Arizona Community Ecocenter MRF in Surprise, Ariz. is now operational. In a release announcing the opening, Waste Management says that the single stream recycling facility is the state’s most advanced recycling facility. The company adds that the new MRF features the latest in recycling technology.
When fully operational, the 65,000 square-foot facility has the capacity to process more than 10,000 tons of material per month, close to 2-1/2 times the processing capacity of WM’s previous Surprise MRF facility, which the company recently closed. The new facility cost more than $20 million to build.
Technology included at the new facility includes magnets, screens, optical scanners and eddy current separators, which, the company notes, create an automated system that is quicker and much more efficient than other recycling facilities.
“We are constantly striving to optimize our efficiency by utilizing advances in recycling technology” says Pat DeRueda, WM Recycle America’s president. “This facility showcases the latest single stream recycling equipment, which will ultimately allow us to offer more recycling programs to our customers.”
