Retailer Walmart has released an updated version of its "Recycling Playbook," which it designed as a resource for companies setting recyclable packaging and recycled content goals. Walmart first introduced the "Recycling Playbook" in February. The company released its newest version at its 2019 Packaging Innovation Summit, Nov. 6.
The Packaging Innovation Summit brings together more than 350 suppliers, associates and innovators to discuss ways to boost recyclable packaging, recycled content, compostable materials and reusable packaging.
The "Recycling Playbook" is organized by packaging format and focuses on those that are most commonly found in Walmart stores. For each major packaging format, the playbook features recyclability information based on existing infrastructure, with a specific focus on North America.
Walmart collaborated with Pure Strategies, with locations in Reston, Virgina, and Gloucester, Massachusetts; The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR), Washington; and the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, Charlottesville, Virginia, to develop the playbook.
