Volvo names new Latin America vice president

Luiz Marcelo Daniel will be responsible for strengthening Volvo CE's and SDLG's market position in Latin America.

Luiz Marcelo Daniel has been appointed vice president hub Latin America for the Americas Region of Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE).

Daniel will be responsible for strengthening the market position of Volvo CE and SDLG in Latin American markets while reinforcing the brands’ efforts to bolster machine uptime and provide solutions for customers.

Daniel will report to Stephen Roy, president of sales in the Americas region and will be based in Curitiba, Brazil. He replaces Afranio Chuerie, the current vice president hub Latin America, who will remain in the position until March 31, 2018.

“What the Latin American team has been able to accomplish under Afranio’s leadership during a very challenging period is absolutely fantastic,” says Daniel. “I plan to continue on this path with the collaboration of this great team while working together with the Americas’ leadership team toward a common vision.”

Roy says the new appointment for Latin America is aligned with Volvo CE’s strategy to help customers as they grow their own companies.

“Daniel’s appointment is part of our efforts in Latin America to meet our customers’ demands in the region and provide unique solutions,” he comments. “We want to make sure that Volvo CE customers enjoy the highest machine uptimes in the industry and have the best value at every stage of their machine life cycle.”

Daniel joined the Volvo Group as product planning engineer at Volvo Trucks Brazil in 1986, following sales and general management positions at Volvo Cars. After holding a variety of senior management positions outside the Volvo Group, he returned to Volvo in 2007 to manage key accounts overseeing the Latin American markets. Between 2010 and 2012 he managed the company’s commercial operations in Brazil, and in 2013 he moved to United States to serve as vice president of key accounts for Volvo CE sales Region Americas, managing the company’s relationship with both private and governmental key customers in the region.

“With his background and expertise in marketing and sales, Luiz brings with him an exceptional understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead in Latin America,” says Chuerie.
