The Circular Plastics Microfactory in Phoenix will be the topic of a webinar on Wednesday, Jan. 29, titled “Localized Circular Economy Solutions: Phoenix’s Microfactory.”
The webinar is being offered by the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) and will feature a presentation by Amanda Jordan, circular economy project manager for the city of Phoenix.
SWANA describes the Circular Plastics Microfactory as a collaborative effort between the city of Phoenix, Arizona State University, Goodwill Industries International and not-for-profit organization Hustle PHX. The facility integrates plastic scrap recycling into “creating a localized circular economy and job opportunities,” says SWANA.
The Microfactory’s backers say they are trying to develop a model that can be replicated globally. The initiative is affiliated with Netherlands-based Precious Plastic, which states as its aim to supply communities with guidance, physical blueprints and business models to start their own grassroots plastic recycling program.
In the late January webinar, SWANA says participants will “learn how to build similar initiatives in your region, tackle challenges and accelerate circular solutions.”
SWANA says topics covered will include “clean material collection, end market development and regional zero waste strategies to minimize environmental impact.”
The Localized Circular Economy Solutions: Phoenix’s Microfactory webinar is scheduled to run from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Jan. 29, and costs $49 for SWANA members and $99 for nonmembers. More information, including how to register can be found on the SWANA website.
