Skip Shapiro has launched Skip Shapiro Enterprises (SSE) in New Bedford, Mass., to provide product destruction and disposal services for the food and beverage industry.
Shapiro formerly served as national sales manager for Waste Management Recycle America, Houston.
SSE offers more than 40 strategically located processing facilities in North America. According to the company, its “handpicked network of subcontractors give SSE the ability to coordinate national projects efficiently and economically,” including products deemed non-saleable anywhere along the manufacturing, warehousing, transporting or supply-chain process.
SSE also can assist clients in recovering federal excise taxes or duty drawback paid by alcoholic beverage manufacturers, importers and distributors. By destroying products in compliance with regulations set by government agencies like Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau and U.S. Customs, tipping fees and freight costs can often be offset by tax recovery, according to the company.
"The need and initial response to SSE has been overwhelming and most gratifying,” Shapiro says.
