Australia-based global recycling company Sims Ltd. has announced the appointment of Philip Bainbridge as an independent nonexecutive board director. Bainbridge’s appointment is expected to be confirmed by shareholders at the Sims 2022 annual general meeting scheduled for Nov. 8.
Sims, which describes itself as a global leader in metal and electronics recycling and an emerging leader in renewable energy, says Bainbridge has executive experience in the oil and gas sector with companies including BP, Australia-based Pacific National and Papua New Guinea-based Oil Search Ltd.
Bainbridge currently is a nonexecutive director at Beach Energy Ltd. and at Newcrest Mining Ltd., both based in Australia. He is also chairman of the Australia-based Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute.
“I’m delighted to welcome Phil and his many years of invaluable executive level experience to our board as an independent director,” says Geoff Brunsdon, Sims board chair. “Phil’s international experience will benefit the company and its shareholders as Sims Ltd. operates in many of the same jurisdictions. I believe his appointment is aligned with the company’s purpose and strategy, and Phil’s experience will complement the board’s existing mix of skills and experience. I look forward to working with him.”
