Shred Monster, a Columbus, Neb., on-site document destruction and recycling company, will begin collecting recyclables from Columbus residents starting Oct. 1, 2012. Michelle Stirek, owner of Shred Monster, says the company will set up drop-off containers for paper, plastics, aluminum, tin and old corrugated containers at its warehouse.
The company already handles some recyclables from customers of its document destruction business.
The city says it will close its recycling center and exit the recycling business.
According to one published report, Shred Monster will add nearly 14,000 square feet to its current operations, doubling the size of the facility, in anticipation of an increase in the recyclable material.
The company will bale the paper collected and will transport the rest of the material to other companies for processing.
Shred Monster provides paper shredding services for all of east and central Nebraska, western Iowa and southern South Dakota.
