Middle East metals are the focus of Sharif presentations

Scrap recycling executive addresses steel and lead scrap situations in December presentations.

Salam Al Sharif, chairman of Sharif Metals International, made two late 2017 appearances at Asian regional metals industry events.

In late November, Sharif addressed delegates at the National Conference on Lead Batteries, held in Bangalore, India, in late November, with the theme “New Challenges & Opportunities.” The event was organized by the India Lead Zinc Development Association (ILZDA).

Sharif gave an overview of the recycling of lead acid batteries in the Middle East, and pointed to the necessity of recycling as part of the sustainable manufacturing of batteries.

In early December, Sharif was invited to speak on the topic of “Scrap Supply in the Middle East” at the 21st Middle East Iron & Steel Conference. That event was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and organized by Metal Bulletin Events.

Sharif’s comments focused on the growth of the Middle East scrap market, which he said is promising to generate “massive demand for steel products.”

Environmental, social, economic and corporate responsibility are related to the cost benefits of using more scrap in today’s world, said Sharif, adding that “each and every individual should conserve and preserve the environment to enjoy social welfare.”

Sharif also referred to the first Global Recycling Day, to be held March 18, 2018, which is an initiative of the Brussels-based Bureau of International Recycling (BIR). The aim of the daily event, to be held annually going forward, is to show the importance of recycling and unite the world’s approach to it, said Sharif.
