Collectors, processors, traders and consumers of recovered paper are the intended audience for two webinars in January.
Members of the Washington-based Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) and its Paper Stock Industries (PSI) Chapter can register at no charge for a Wednesday, Jan. 15, “Paper Industry Update Fireside Chat.” Eight days later, on Thursday, Jan. 23, Recycling Today is presenting a webinar moderated byt a veteran recovered fiber trader focused on transportation and shipping topics.
The Jan. 15 ReMA webinar has been organized in cooperation with Davis Index, a business information services company that initially focused on recycled metals and has started to offer recovered paper pricing indices.
The Paper Industry Update Fireside Chat is scheduled to run from noon until 1:15 p.m. Eastern Time and will be moderated by paper and board recycling veteran and former PSI president Johnny Gold.
Gold will be joined by five scheduled speakers: Ryan Fox, a corrugated packaging market analyst with news and information service Bloomberg LP; Ed Tucciarone, another recycling sector veteran who now serves as a board director with Atlanta-based Graphic Packaging International Inc.; Myles Cohen, another industry veteran who now serves as CEO of Circular Ventures LLC; Jason Pelz, a vice president with packaging producer Tetrapak who also serves with the Carton Council; and Jeff Rice of global trading firm CellMark Recycling.
Among topics to be covered, Tucciarone will provide an update on Graphic Packaging’s new mill in Waco, Texas, while Rice will provide an overview of recent and expected recovered paper export trends. Cohen will focus on old corrugated container (OCC) recycling rate calculations and Fox will discuss corrugated box demand metrics developed and used by Bloomberg.
The Thursday, Jan. 23, webinar organized by Recycling Today will focus more narrowly on freight and transportation-related disruptions and how to prepare for them.
The free informational event features four transportation and recycling sector professionals: Carl Bentzel, formerly of the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC); Robyn Lyons of Maersk; Karyn Booth of law firm Thompson Hine LLP (who focuses on transportation law and policy), and; Nini Krever of Wilmington Paper Corp. and ReMA’s Paper Stock Industries Chapter.
According to Recycling Today, virtual attendees of the “PPRC Webinar: Transportation and Logistics” can expect to “gain critical insights into the evolving transportation, logistics and recycling landscape.”
Adds the media outlet, “Whether it’s shipping delays, labor strikes or shifting global trade dynamics, this fee webinar will provide you with the latest updates and strategies to navigate these ever-changing challenges.”
In her legal work, speaker Booth has been “at the forefront of major policy proceedings before federal transportation agencies, including the FMC and Congress,” says the webinar organizer.
Bentzel, meanwhile, served as an FMC commissioner from 2019 to 2024 and has worked on the staffs of members of Congress. Lyons joined Maersk in 2016 and now serves as a head of strategic commodities, a sales and support position that entails her working with recycled materials firms who ship globally.
Moderator Krever handles both domestic and export paper transactions with New Jersey-based Wilmington Paper. She also has been involved for decades with the PSI Chapter of ReMA and served as its first female president from 1999 to 2001.
