The months of September and October will offer several opportunities for collectors, processors, sellers and buyers of recyclables to gather with their peers at industry events.

For those seeking a global perspective, the Brussels-based Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) is hosting its World Recycling Convention Autumn Round-Table Sessions in Singapore this Oct. 27-29. The event is at the Raffles City Convention Centre in the Lion City.

The BIR is now accepting registrations for the conference, where it says it expects “hundreds of businesspeople active in the global recycling industry” to gather.

BIR divisions and committees include those engaged in the recycling of ferrous, nonferrous and stainless steel metals, paper, plastic, electronic scrap, tires and textiles.

In the United States, the Recycled Materials Association (ReMA, formerly ISRI), says its annual fall Roundtables this year will offer six “must-attend education sessions featuring the top minds following the markets for recycled materials, including various metals [and] electronics.”

The ReMA Roundtables in 2024 are Sept. 23-25 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago in that city. In addition to the commodities-focused sessions, ReMA says three networking events taking place as part of the larger conference include a gathering at AceBounce (which it says is “back by popular demand”), a ReMA Women In Recycling event and a Young Executive Meet Ups opportunity.

Also, in the U.S., the Recycling Today Media Group is hosting a metals-focused industry event in September followed by its decades-old Paper & Plastics Recycling Conference in October.

The third annual edition of Scrap Expo is Sept. 17-18 at the Kentucky Exhibition Center in Louisville. The media group bills the indoor and outdoor event as a “live demonstration event” that also features sessions with company executives and other industry figures.

“We literally build a metals recycling yard in two days, run it for two days, then ship all the prepared material directly to consumers,” the Recycling Today Media Group says of how it demonstrates and offers access to processing equipment on display by several dozen participating vendors.

The following month, the group will host the 2024 edition of its Paper & Plastics Recycling Conference (PPRC), which has been convening annually since 2000.

This year’s conference again will be preceded by the MRF Operations Forum from Oct. 21-22, which covers issues pertinent to companies that own and manage material recovery facilities (MRFs) and other processing facilities for recyclables.

The PPRC is Oct. 23-24 and, like the MRF Operations Forum, is at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. The two-day event is hosted in cooperation with the Paper Stock Industries (PSI) Chapter of ReMA.

The organizers bill the PPRC as an opportunity to connect with top players in the supply chain, including brand owners, recyclers and consumers of recyclables in the paper and plastics sectors.
