Edward J. Binkowski, president and CEO of American Designed Products, K-Metal Fabrication (KMF) Inc. and Union Environmental, passed away Nov. 22, 2010, at the age of 84.
Binkowski started KMF in 1962 to build roll-off containers and soon found himself manufacturing balers, supplying retailers as well as a full distribution network. He designed and manufactured a full line of vertical and horizontal balers and stationary and self-contained compactors. Binkowski also is credited with designing the first counter-balanced safety gate for vertical balers, which is an industry standard today.
Best known for his ability to design recycling and waste disposal units for any application, many of his designed are copied and duplicated today as specialty designed products, according to his son Gregory Leon of PTR Baler & Compactor, Philadelphia.
Leon notes that his father’s love for golf was only eclipsed by his love for the arts, including painting, sketching and playing the piano.
Binkowski is survived by his wife, Shirley; his sons Edward and Gregory and his daughter, Shirlann, as well as by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
