Eastman among renewable material award nominees

The Germany-based Nova-Institute and Germany-based polymers producer Covestro have announced six finalists for its “Renewable Material of the Year 2022” awards.

Three of the six will be awarded in May for what the two organizations call “particularly exciting and promising solutions that contribute to replacing fossil carbon from the ground.”

“The advisory board and the Nova-experts had some trouble selecting the six most exciting ones and nominating them for the award,” states Nova-Institute in an April news release.

The six nominees are United States-based Eastman for its “material-to-material” molecular recycling technologies; Norway-based Borregaard for its Exilva fibrillated cellulose; France-based Lactips for its plastic-free paper with “CareTips;” U.S.-based Origin Materials for a technology platform designed to produce carbon-negative polyethylene terephthalate (PET); Twelve Benefit Corp., also based in the U.S. for its electrochemical CO2 “transformation to chemicals and materials” process; and Germany-based VerBio Vereinigte BioEnergie for its VerBioChem Ethenolyis platform for renewable chemicals.

Organizer Nova-Institute and sponsor Covestro say the innovation awards are a highlight of the Renewable Materials Conference, which this year will be held May 10-12 in Cologne, Germany.

May 11, the nominated companies will present their products to conference participants, both on-site and online, who will vote for the three winners.
