The Waste Alliance Group (WAG) of North Carolina will host Material Recovery Equipment Demonstration Week Nov. 12-14, with morning sessions at Statesville Civic Center, 300 S. Center St., Statesville, North Carolina, from 7:30 a.m. to noon, followed by equipment demonstrations from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Iredell Landfill, 354 Twin Oaks Rd. in Statesville.

The event offers the opportunity to earn seven continuing education credits while hearing from guest speakers who include Subodh Das, Ph.D., of Phinix LLC Clayton, Missouri, who will talk about landfill mining, and Ed Mussler, formerly of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ), who will speak about waste management in North Carolina. Raymond Hoffman will speak about shingle recycling and density improvement planning.

Attendees also will be able to learn about the types of equipment used in landfill reclamation, including presentations from Lindner, E-Factor 3, ELV Select Equipment, NED and 3r Machinery. They can then watch live equipment demonstrations from many of these companies and M&J Recycling involving the recovery of iron and steel, aluminum, copper, plastic and wood from the landfill.

The event will include weighing the recovered materials to determine the percentages of recovered material to waste volumes and the airspace savings at the landfill.

The event is $50 to attend and registration is available at the WAG website.
