The National Recycling Coalition (NRC), Washington, recently honored Morristown, New Jersey-based Covanta's Margretta Morris, vice president of materials management and community affairs, with the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award for her efforts and leadership in recycling. The NRC is a nonprofit organization focused on promoting and enhancing recycling in the United States.
"Meg has dedicated her personal and professional life to the advancement of recycling," says NRC Vice President Fran McPoland. "As a long-time NRC board member, serving as president, chair, vice president and treasurer, Meg was a major force in the re-emergence of the NRC, helping organize the rebuilding of the organization and its finances."
With more than 25 years of experience in sustainable materials management, Morris has worked with communities around the United States to implement sustainable waste management and recycling systems. At Covanta, she leads the company's community outreach initiatives, such as Fishing for Energy and Prescription for Safety (Rx4Safety), and mercury collections.
"Meg is an outstanding recycling professional whose tireless efforts have assisted communities nationwide in developing sustainable, integrated waste management strategies that follow the 4Rs—reduce, reuse, recycle and recover," says Paul Gilman, Covanta senior vice president and chief sustainability officer. "I congratulate her on this well-deserved honor and look forward to her continued contributions to the advancement of sustainable materials management."
In addition to her work at Covanta, Morris has had long-standing roles on the boards of directors for the Pennsylvania Recycling Markets Center, the Go Green Initiative, the Federation of New York Solid Waste Associations, America Recycles Day Inc. and MassRecycle.
