Michelin introduces next generation of skid steer tweel

X Tweel SLL offered in all-terrain and hard-surface versions.

Michelin, Greenville, South Carolina, has introduced Michelin X Tweel SSL AT 2 and HST 2 12N16.5, airless tire solutions for skid steers, at Ag in Motion in Saskatchewan, Canada.

The new versions of its airless radial tires come in both an all-terrain (AT) and a hard-surface (HST) version. Michelin says the Tweel is its first embedded eight-bolt hub that is interlocked mechanically for increased durability.

According to the company, the Tweel features improved shear beam construction that maximizes core life, new spoke formulation that provides up to 10 times greater spoke life and a maximum load of 4,400 pounds.

Michelin says the Tweel offers the advantages of no maintenance, no compromise and no downtime. Because the Tweel requires no air, there is no risk of a flat tire, which allows users to stay in operation with limited downtime. The Tweel also delivers the advantages of easy mounting, damage resistance, operator comfort, reduced operator fatigue, improved productivity and longer wear life than standard pneumatic tires, the company says.

The Tweel HST 2 12N16.5 is constructed with a 48/32-inch tread depth with 8/32-inch of undertread. The Tweel AT 2 12N16.5 is constructed with a 31/32-inch tread depth with 12/32-inch of undertread. The outer core tread can be retreaded multiple times.

The Tweel will be available Aug. 1 in the United States and Canada.
