UK scrap firm touts British exports

Wigan, United Kingdom-based scrap metal recycler Maxilead Metals has created an infographic and map it indicates has been designed to “celebrate the number of U.K. family-based businesses that export their goods across the world.”

The company indicates its relationship with Asia has helped put Wigan and Maxilead “on the map,” but that it also wanted to “celebrate other hard-working family-run businesses [that] are setting up trading links across the globe.”

The infographic shows Maxilead as one of 17 companies based in the U.K. that exports goods. Among the other companies are mobile material handling equipment maker JCB (J.C. Bamford Excavators Ltd.), as well as a luxury yacht maker and a cider producer.

“We’re so proud of our success in becoming a leading name in the scrap metal industry,” says Tom Clay of Maxilead Metals, adding, “We’re also proud of our ties to Wigan, our home town that has spawned many other successful companies.”

Clay continues, “The infographic is our way of highlighting all the hard work being done by countless family businesses up and down the nation. Staying afloat in business is hard enough, and setting up a successful trade between two countries has its own set of challenges. Our graphic is a nod to all family-run businesses out there working hard to provide a future for the generations to come.”

Maxilead is managed by a husband and wife duo along with their five children, who say they have built up their business “from humble beginnings in the 1980s to become one of the biggest names in the industry.”

Maxilead Metals developed its exporting business several years ago and now exports scrap metal to Bangladesh, Singapore and India, according to the firm’s news release.
