Los Angeles Sanitation (LA Sanitation) and the city of Los Angeles have launched the Green Ribbon Council for the city’s new citywide commercial and multifamily waste and recycling collection program, recycLA.
The Green Ribbon Council will bring together business, civic and community leaders to help increase public awareness about the program and to ensure that recycLA meets customer service goals. The program aims to increase recycling in the city to divert 90 percent of materials going to landfills by 2025.
Beginning July 1, 2017, 80,000 commercial and multifamily customers will begin a coordinated multimonth transition from a currently unregulated system to one that is dependable and sustainable, Los Angeles Sanitation says. The new system divides the city into 11 zones that will be served exclusively by a single service provider, meaning fewer trucks congesting neighborhoods and less wear and tear on streets, Los Angeles Sanitation continues. It also will ensure strong customer services, predictable and protected rates and much needed infrastructure and equipment improvements.
