Interzero, a Berlin-based environmental service provider specializing in waste management, closed-loop solutions and plastics recycling, and Coveris, an international packaging manufacturer, have announced a partnership designed to close a loop in plastics recycling—an effort the companies say supports their goal of “eliminating waste in all forms.”

Coveris, based in Vienna, previously launched ReCover, its recycling business unit that sources feedstock from discarded plastic packaging to be recycled via the company’s “pioneering” deinking and recycling technology. The process creates what Coveris says are high-quality recyclates “unparalleled” in the market.

With the new partnership, Interzero's collected and sorted materials will be processed by Coveris' ReCover entities, producing recycled resins to be used in Coveris packaging products, such as its Duralite R collation films.

"We are excited about this partnership with Interzero as it aligns perfectly with our no waste vision,” Coveris CEO Christian Kolarik says. “By integrating well sorted postconsumer waste into our recycling processes, we are taking a significant step towards completely closing the loop.”

According to Coveris and Interzero, the partnership creates an advantage in the entire value chain, helping to achieve key sustainability goals, such as reducing CO2 footprint, waste prevention, securing raw materials and adhering to governmental packaging and waste regulations.

"Collaborating with Coveris allows us to leverage our expertise in waste collection and sorting to support the creation of high-quality recycled resins,” Interzero CEO Jan Kroker says. “Together, we can make a substantial impact on reducing waste. The circular economy is a joint project that benefits everyone. We are shaping the circular economy of tomorrow, for a world without waste.”
