Home goods maker wins recycling-related award

In2green honored for its use of secondary plastic resins in its indoor/outdoor throws.

In2green, a Hastings-on-Hudson, New York-based maker of home goods and accessories, has received an Icon Honor for Innovation award from the organizers of an annual event that took place in Atlanta July 14, 2016.

In2green was recognized for its recycled-content polyester knit fabric, which is used to produce its line of indoor/outdoor throws, or blankets. Launched at the end of 2015 and manufactured in the United States, the products are made with polyester yarns made from postconsumer plastic bottles. Approximately 78 plastic bottles are used to create a 48-inch-by-60-inch In2green eco-luxury throw.

The company says it is on track to recycle more than 100,000 bottles by the end of 2016, adding that the manufacturing process offsets the need for crude oil, thus conserving natural resources and energy.

The Icon Honors awards event was produced by AmericasMart Atlanta, in partnership with the Gift & Home Trade Association (GHTA), Marietta, Georgia, and Progressive Business Media, Greensboro, North Carolina, and in affiliation with the nonprofit Gift For Life.

“In2green is a true innovator within the home and gift industry, pushing the envelope with domestic up-cycling manufacturing processes,” says George Kacic, AmericasMart executive vice president for retail sales. “The recycled polyester throws set the standard for innovation in design, and we are pleased to honor the creative vision of its founders Lori Slater and Stefanie Zeldin.”

Says Zeldin, “We have a passion for design and a steadfast commitment to creating luxury, sustainable products made in the U.S.A. Receiving the Icon Honors award further supports our eco efforts, and for that we are extremely grateful.”

In addition to its recycled-content polyester throws, In2green also offers a line of recycled-content cotton throws and knit accessories. National retailers and specialty boutiques carry In2green products, and In2green also serves the hospitality and corporate gift markets via custom orders.

In2green co-founders Lori Slater and Stefanie Zeldin say the company, which was established in 2006, continues to promote green jobs and American-made manufacturing opportunities.
