The Good Plastic Co., which is based in the Netherlands, is expanding into North America this year to offer its recycled-content Polygood line of countertop and tabletop surface materials.
The company says its Polygood products help brands make a "tangible commitment to sustainability and the circular economy” by using a range of 100 percent recycled-content plastic panels made from postconsumer and postindustrial scrap.
Founded by William Chizhovsky in 2018, Good Plastic has completed more than 750 international projects using Polygood in furniture, surfacing and design elements.
The Good Plastic Co. produces more than 1,000 tons of recycled plastic panels per year at its facilities in the Netherlands and Ukraine. A list of specifications on the Good Plastic website indicates the Polygood line is made from polystyrene (PS).
The European company's roster of more than 400 clients includes Nike, Adidas, Ikea, McDonald’s, Coach, Hyundai, Samsung and BMW.
“With the belief that demand-driven change can rescue plastic from landfills, oceans and incinerators, The Good Plastic Co. looks to continue the momentum as it enters the North America market,” the company says.
“We began five years ago in Europe by developing proprietary, cutting-edge equipment that not only creates demand for fully circular material through practical and distinctive products but also scales up its utilization for greater impact,” Chizhovsky adds.
“By investing heavily in research and development and orienting ourselves as an impact-driven company in every aspect of our business, we were able to pioneer a material that serves as a catalyst for the circular economy."
Good Plastic says it maintains inventory or can custom fill orders, and Polygood provides flexibility for various design applications while boasting Cradle to Cradle bronze certification and a European Environmental Product Declaration.
Good Plastic's scrap streams include material harvested from refrigerators, single-use cutlery, household appliances and manufacturing components.
The firm has 530,000 square feet of annual manufacturing capacity, with the ability to expand capacity flexibly to meet the "growing demand for sustainable materials."
"As we continue to grow, we are excited to offer businesses, specifiers and consumers in North America access to a truly sustainable and aesthetically pleasing surfacing solution that aligns with their commitment to environmental responsibility," Chizhovsky says.
