Georgia-Pacific (GP) has announced plans for a $160 million investment to modernize operations at its containerboard mill in Brewton, Alabama.
The Atlanta-based packaging and paper products manufacturer says the project involves upgrades to the facility’s pulp processing systems that will reduce energy and chemicals consumption as well as other environmental emissions and allow for more paper production.

“This is a significant investment for Brewton and will build upon the transformative advancements that have been made here in the recent years,” Brewton mill Vice President and General Manager Mark Martin says.
“The project also reduces risks for Brewton employees, furthers our competitive position in the industry and progresses our environmental stewardship efforts with positive impacts to reduce solid waste generation, air emissions and wastewater.”
GP expects construction to begin next year and estimates startup by spring 2024.
