Gardner Metal Recycling relocates

Gardner Metal Recycling of Austin, Texas, has relocated to a new facility at 9701 U.S. Hwy 290 E. Service Rd. The company helps contractors, utility service providers and the manufacturing and industrial sectors recycle scrap material.

The company was established in the 1970s at E. 4th Street, operating at that location for more than 30 years. As business grew, Gardner Metal Recycling relocated to 8410 S. Congress Ave. Now, the business has returned to where it all started, but to a facility that is nine times the size of its first one. It expands Gardner’s processing capacity and provides easier access to enhance recycling opportunities for the greater Austin community.

The facility is set up to better serve a range of scrap metal recycling needs across a variety of industries. Gardner Metal Recycling can work with contractors, manufacturers and utility service providers to develop customized plans. The company provides collection services at job sites, or items can be dropped off at the facility. Gardner Metal Recycling’s staff helps sort the collected scrap to help customers get the best price possible.

“There is no question that our growth is a result of our fantastic customer base,” says Andy Johnson, president and chief operating officer of Gardner Metal Recycling. “As our customers have expanded their own operations, we’ve evolved to meet their service needs. Whether it was investing in more trucks or shipping containers, buying balers for material compression or increasing our facility size as we have now, it is all part of us wanting to exceed our customers’ needs.”

Gardner Metal Recycling accepts all types of metals, including copper, aluminum, brass and stainless steel.

"We are very excited to begin the next phase of our journey here in East Austin. It's interesting that we have come full circle back to this side of town,” Johnson says. “We are grateful that we have been able to grow as a business over these many years.”
