Enron announced that it is closing its Garden State Paper subsidiary indefinitely. The mill, located in Garfield, N.J., is a producer of 100 percent recycled content newsprint. The company announced plans to shutter the mill Dec. 7, with the mill expected to be closed by Dec. 10th.
Jennifer Walker, a spokeswoman for Enron, said the mill, a significant consumer of old news, is presently in the process of being closed down, with the mill slated to be shut by this Monday afternoon.
While the mill will be closed, the company will be exploring a multitude of options for the mill, including possibly selling the mill to an interested party.
While the mill will be closed, Enron will continue to operate its Garden State recycling facilities in the Northeast. ONP collected from these facilities will be sold on the open market, rather than sold to the Garden State mill.
While the New Jersey mill is closing, the company’s paper mills in Canada will continue to operate as before.
