Envision Plastics’ EcoPrime can be used to package fatty foods and spirits

FDA issues a letter of no objection regarding EcoPrime's use at up to 100 percent in HDPE packaging for these applications.

Envision Plastics, headquartered in Reidsville, North Carolina, has announced that the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a letter of no objection regarding the suitability of Envision’s flagship product, EcoPrime, when used at levels of up to 100 percent in HDPE (high-density polyethylene) packaging for fatty foods and spirits under FDA’s Conditions of Use A through H. With this recent FDA letter, EcoPrime is the only postconsumer recycled HDPE resin to which the FDA has granted a favorable review for use in packaging all food types up to retort temperature conditions, the company claims.

EcoPrime is one of the only recycled and recyclable HDPE resins specifically manufactured for direct food contact at levels up to 100 percent, Envision Plastics says, adding that EcoPrime can be integrated into existing manufacturing processes for the packaging of food and beverages, as well as for beauty, cosmetic and personal care products.

Tamsin Ettefagh, vice president of sales and procurement for Envision Plastics, says, “I am thrilled at the opportunities the FDA’s letter of no objection provides, extending the use of this innovative product into new markets. Made from U.S.-sourced recycled food packaging, integrating EcoPrime not only provides your end consumers the products they love but within packaging they can feel good about.”

Envision Plastics was established in 2001 and has produced more than 750 million pounds of recycled resin. In June 2014, Envision was acquired by Atlanta-based Consolidated Container Co. (CCC) and continues to operate as a distinct business within the CCC family. Envision products include EcoPrime, PRISMA, OceanBound Plastic and Deodorized Resin.
