Empire Recycling Corp., Utica, N.Y., has announced the acquisition of Lightning Fast Freight, a company described as a full-service transportation firm specializing in intermodal freight.
According to Empire, the deal strengthens its ability to provide recycling services to more locations.
"Transportation is a huge part of our business, and customer service depends on it —being able to better control the costs and the logistics of all types of freight is imperative to maintaining that service,” says Dave Levitt, project manager for Empire. “This acquisition will enable us to help our customers with inbound and outbound freight as well as providing additional markets for their recyclable materials.”
The acquisition brings Empire’s fleet of trucks to about 60 units and adds 30 jobs to the company.
Empire handles ferrous and nonferrous metals through its eight locations in the New York cities of Utica, Liverpool, Syracuse, Shortsville, Waterloo, Albany, Watertown and Binghamton.
In addition to metals, Empire performs document destruction services through its Confidata division, headquartered in Utica, and paper recycling operations through its SMR Fibre division, Syracuse.
