Eagle International tire shears: Size matters

How to choose the best tire shear for your needs

Whether you’re a small tire shop, a municipal landfill or a professional within the tire recycling field—you'll need a tire shear. And when it comes to choosing the right tire shear for the job, size really does matter.

The first thing you’ll need to establish when shopping for tire shears is the maximum size of tires you’ll be processing. Eagle International has designed and built tire shears that process everything from ATV tires to the world’s largest tires, 59/80R63 and 70/70-57.

If you’re looking to scrap anything smaller than a semi-truck tire, you’ll be looking at either the Eagle TC Gator or the Tru-Cut. Both machines are easy to set up and use and are ideal for smaller operations. Both can cut standard pickup and SUV tires, with the latter being able to process super-single truck tires.

Larger tires start to fall into the off-the-road (OTR) tires category. Eagle’s Tuf-Cut series are OTR capable and feature hydraulic-powered tire lifts. The original Tuf-Cut can handle tires up to 23.5X25 12-ply tires. In contrast, the Tuf-Cut II can handle 29.5x25 34-ply and features an upgraded cutting deck with hydraulic-powered rollers to rotate the tire as you cut it.

The larger category of OTR mining tires will require the Eagle Titan series of shears. The Titan Series features hydraulic-powered rollers that rotate the tire and a probe arm that helps reposition and pin the tire in place as you cut into user-defined segments. The Eagle International Titan can cut whole tires up to 27.00R49 or tires up to 38 inches wide across the tread and 8 feet in diameter. The Eagle Titan II is the next and largest tire shear, which can process whole tires up to 40.00/57 or 59/80R63 that have been bagel-cut by the Eagle OTR Punch Cutter.

All these machines, except for the TC Gator (our smallest shear), come in portable or stationary models. So, if you’re planning on having customers bring you tires or you’re planning on traveling to tire storage sites, Eagle has you covered.
