Employees at the Cleveland-Cliffs Dearborn Works mill near Detroit, represented by United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 600, have ratified a four-year labor contract.

The new contract is effective through July 31, 2028, and will cover approximately 1,000 UAW-represented workers in Michigan.

“This equitable deal with our team at Dearborn is the latest illustration of our strong commitment to a collaborative relationship that benefits our employees and Cliffs as a whole,” Cliffs President and CEO Lourenco Goncalves says. “We are pleased to solidify this partnership with the UAW for another four years.”

In addition to the sizable blast furnace/basic oxygen furnace complex in Dearborn, Cleveland-Cliffs owns Detroit-based metals recycling firm Ferrous Processing & Trading, which operates several scrap processing facilities in and near Detroit, including one across the border in Windsor, Ontario.

In late 2022, Cleveland-Cliffs agreed to terms with the United Steelworkers on a four-year contract with workers at its iron mining and processing locations. As part of its effort to purchase Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corp., Goncalves and Cliffs sought and received the USW’s backing for its bid.
