Cirba Solutions expands partnership with Call2Recycle

Charlotte, North Carolina-based lithium-ion battery (LIB) recycler Cirba Solutions has expanded its collaboration with Atlanta-based battery collection, logistics and recycling program Call2Recycle.

Cirba will serve as the nonprofit’s strategic partner in processing postconsumer LIBs, which are most frequently found in items such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets, power tools and other household items.

Under the agreement, Cirba will handle the processing of postconsumer LIBs gathered by Call2Recycle from around the United States and spearhead the separation of critical materials from the batteries to be place back into the battery supply chain. Call2Recycle says it will leverage its expertise in safe, efficient and compliant battery aggregation and collection.

Both Cirba and Call2Recycle say traceability and transparency are important components in the supply chain, and will be supported by Call2Recycle’s GreenTrax platform, which provides a secure framework for data sharing.

This will ensure that we can continue to support sustainably sourced content and do our part to build a circular battery supply chain.”

The partners say they are continuing to explore collaboration areas to expand offerings to support convenient and safe collection aimed to increase battery recycling rates. Cirba currently operates two lithium-ion processing sites in Ohio and Arizona and is adding a new flagship facility in South Carolina it expects to be operational by late 2024. The facilities process critical elements such as lithium, nickel and cobalt.
