During the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) World Recycling Convention in Dubai, the Brussels-based organization appointed a new chair and ambassadors for the BIR Ambassadors Committee.

BIR President Tom Bird has appointed Susie Burrage, owner and founder of United Kingdom-based Recycled Products Ltd., to serve as chair of the BIR Ambassadors Committee. Bird also named Leopoldo Clemente, founder and CEO of Italy-based LCD Group, and Ibrahim Aboura, managing director at Dubai-based Aboura Metals, to serve as ambassadors on BIR’s Ambassadors Committee.

Burrage founded Recycled Products Ltd. in 2001. She also is president of the British Metals Recycling Association as well as president of the European Metal Trade & Recycling Branch of EuRIC. Additionally, she is an ambassador of the Global Recycling Foundation, a patron for the Bureau of Middle East Recycling and BIR’s U.K. Ambassador and board member of the organization’s Non-Ferrous Metals Division.

“Following the resignation of Mr. Salam Al Shariff, BIR President Tom Bird graciously appointed me chair of the BIR Ambassadors Committee during the latest BIR Convention in Dubai, a position I am very honored to hold,” Burrage says. “I am humbled that the current BIR Ambassadors have agreed to continue under my leadership, and I am delighted Mr. Ibrahim Aboura and Mr. Leopoldo Clemente have subsequently agreed to join the committee. We will continue to promote BIR at various conferences and seminars in our respective regions and raise awareness regarding recycling and its benefits and the circular economy globally.”

Clemente founded LCD Trading in 2014, and he has experience in financial markets analysis for the nonferrous metals industry. He has served on BIR’s Non-Ferrous Metals Division board since 2015. As a BIR Ambassador, he will be responsible for Italy and Africa.

Aboura has been a board member for BIR’s Non-Ferrous Metals Division representing the Middle East from 2013 to this year. As an ambassador on the Ambassadors Committee, he will represent the Middle East region.
