Bruker Debuts S1 Titan Handheld XRF Analyzer

The device, introduced to the market at the ISRI 2012 Conference in Las Vegas, is available in three models.

Bruker Corp., headquartered in Billerica, Mass., has introduced the S1 Titan handheld XRF analyzer at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) 2012 Conference and Exposition in Las Vegas. 

The S1 Titan is constructed to be one of the lightest tube-based handheld XRF analyzers on the market, the company says. Available in three models, the device is designed to be easy to use and to provide fast, accurate and automated elemental analysis and positive material identification.
 
Suitable for use in a wide range of applications, including recycling, aerospace, automotive, metals processing, fabrication, electronics, mining and sorting, the S1 Titan features an integrated touch-screen color display and an up to 50 kilovolt X-ray tube. According to Bruker, the 1.44-kilogram device can quickly and accurately identify elemental composition or alloys of samples or parts in a wide range of applications. The S1 Titan uses Bruker’s proprietary high-speed XFlash SDD (silicon drift detector) with high energy resolution and light-element capabilities and features an ergonomically designed, yet tough, sealed housing, the company says.
 
Three different models are available. With its thin film window, the S1 TitanLE can analyze up to 37 elements, including magnesium, aluminum and silicon without the need for a vacuum or helium gas flush, Bruker says. The S1 TitanSE is ideal for analyzing standard alloys and high-temp samples up to 500 degrees Celsius. And the S1 TitanSP is a value analyzer with a traditional SiPIN (silicon photodiode) detector and features an aluminized Kapton window for measuring in-process samples at temps up to 500 degrees Celsius, the company says.
 
Bruker says the S1 Titan features its patent-pending SharpBeam technology for optimum tube geometry, improved precision, reduced power requirements and increased battery life. The S1 Titan is also available configured specifically to analyze precious metals.
