Biffa Group Ltd., High Wycombe, United Kingdom, has appointed Ian Wakelin CEO of the company. Wakelin was most recently chief executive of Greenstar UK, which has been acquired by Biffa.
“I am delighted that the board has offered me this opportunity to lead the combined Greenstar and Biffa business,” says Wakelin. “We undoubtedly have the best platform for growth in the U.K. waste industry, and I look forward to working with the rest of the Biffa team to realize the full potential of this business.”
Mark Keough, a director of Montagu Private Equity Associates LLP and currently the interim CEO of Biffa, will continue to work with Wakelin and the rest of the senior management staff as an advisor in developing a strategic plan for the combined businesses, according to a news release from Biffa.
“We are pleased to have retained Ian as CEO of the combined business,” says Keough. “He has impressed all of us with his track record and leadership qualities and we look forward to great things from the new Biffa,” he adds.
Wakelin is a scheduled speaker at the European Paper Recycling Conference (www.PaperRecyclingEurope.com), taking place Nov. 3-4 in Frankfurt, Germany.
