The Max-AI Total Visual Identification System (VIS) sorting machine and technology from Eugene, Oregon-based Bulk Handling Systems (BHS) has been selected as a finalist for the 2024 Plastics Recycling Awards Europe 2024 in the category of Recycling Machinery Innovation of the Year.
The awards are organized by Crain Communications, a Detroit-based company that hosts the annual Plastics Recycling Show Europe event. This year’s winners will be honored at the 2024 edition of that event, which takes place June 19-20 in Amsterdam.
The category in which BHS is nominated rewards innovative machinery advancements that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of plastic recycling processes, BHS says. The company is competing with 10 other nominees in the category.
Max-AI Total VIS is technology that captures a material stream’s composition as it enters its first sorting stage, which entails the use of a BHS AQC-2 robotic sorter. Data that is gathered is shared with the BHS Total Intelligence Platform.
“The material composition data guides the system as it autonomously determines the commodity recovery material targets and sequencing based upon operator defined parameters,” BHS says.
BHS says deploying Max-AI Total VIS at a material recovery facility or other sorting plant can reduce capital expenditures, eliminate some manual sorting positions and provide high recovery rates with customizable purity levels by utilizing intelligent decision-making programs combined with real-time data.
“This recognition reflects our dedication to innovation and creating solutions that make a real difference in the world,” BHS says of its nomination.
