Recoup, the United Kingdom-based charity that provides guidance across the plastics recycling chain, has announced the finalists for the U.K. Best Recycled Plastic Product Award 2019. The charity supports this award. The award is in its fifth year and has been used as a vehicle to highlight the benefits of recycled plastics, Recoup reports.
The three finalists, who were chosen by a panel of industry peers, include:
- Recycled Raincoats from Billygoats & Raincoats, which are raincoats created from discarded music festival tents;
- Detecta by Quinn from Quinn Packaging, which is a recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) detectable black tray; and
- LuxCR Depolymerisation Process by DuPont Teijin Films, which are film lids that use 50 percent rPET.
“As always, we are thrilled with the standard of entries received for this year’s award,” says Stuart Foster, CEO of Recoup. “With ambitions to significantly raise plastic recycling levels, ensuring that manufacturing has a strong demand for this material is critical.
“Promoting the use of recycled plastic helps to demonstrate what can be achieved. There needs to be a continued effort to stimulate the demand and appetite for the design and manufacture of such products. Awards such as this demonstrate that plastic is a circular resource, something that is critical to the future success of this industry,” he continues.
The award presents an opportunity for the industry to show its commitment to the environment and sustainability, Recoup reports in a news release announcing the award finalists.
“Winning this award has demonstrated to the industry that a solution exists to [recycle plastics into oil so it can be made into new plastics],” says Elena Parisi, sales and marketing director of Recycling Technologies, an England-based company that won the award in 2017. “It helped boost our credibility in the market, raising our profile with customers, shareholders, industry influencers and the media.”
The 2019 winner will be announced at the Plastics Industry Awards dinner Sept. 27.
