Balcones Resources, Austin, Texas, has merged with New York-based Sims Municipal Recycling (SMR) under the name Balcones Recycling. The company has launched a new website and branding to match the change.
Closed Loop Partners (CLP) acquired Balcones Resources in 2019. In 2022, CLP acquired SMR and created Circular Services as a holding company, with Balcones and SMR functioning as the recycling entities within the organization.
The newly expanded Balcones Recycling says it is one of the largest independent recycling companies in the U.S.
“Our companies come from different roots: one public, one private, one born in Texas and one in New York and New Jersey,” Balcones Recycling CEO Tom Outerbridge says. “But we have both always been dedicated pure-play recyclers. Most importantly, we have grown what will now be one team of the most experienced and dedicated professionals in the industry.”
Balcones Recycling says its partners will now have access to a larger team of professionals to create and deliver custom recycling programs. The new website includes information about its locations and their corresponding services.
“We are excited to reintroduce ourselves with our new image and expanded team of experts,” says Adam Vehik, company president. “We have a unique opportunity to amplify our impact across the country without changing the way we operate.
“Our partners can expect the same personalized approach we are known for, except now there’s a larger leadership team to confer and provide custom recycling solutions."
Over the last year, the Balcones Recycling footprint expanded to 14 county and municipal contracts in New York; Phoenix; Austin, Texas; and San Antonio. The company now serves more than 13 million people and processes more than 1 million tons of recyclables each year.
Balcones Recycling says the branding and operations merger was an easy decision because of both companies’ operational expertise, focus on recycling services and similar values.
