The Azek Co. Inc., a manufacturer of low-maintenance and sustainable outdoor living products such as decking and railing, trim and pergolas, recently has acquired Northwest Polymers, a postindustrial and postcommercial plastic recycling company with facilities in Molalla and Aurora, Oregon.

Azek, headquartered in Chicago, says the acquisition will expand its capacity to source and process recycled materials in the Pacific Northwest while supporting its long-term growth strategy and margin expansion objectives.

“Northwest Polymers has built a strong reputation for sourcing, processing and supplying high-quality recycled plastic materials to various industries, and we are excited to welcome them into the Azek family,” Azek CEO Jesse Singh says. “Located in close proximity to our Boise manufacturing facility [in Idaho], this acquisition will help us strengthen our material supply chain in the western United States, improve cost efficiencies and enhance our ability to meet the growing demand for beautiful, low-maintenance and sustainable outdoor living solutions.”

Azek says the acquisition also will support the expansion of its Full-Circle PVC Recycling program in the western U.S.—a program designed to collect and recycle postconstruction polyvinyl chloride (PVC) scrap, ensuring it is repurposed into high-performance, sustainable building products across the Azek portfolio. Product lines under the Azek umbrella include TimberTech decking and railing, Versatex and Azek trim and StruXure pergolas.

In a news release announcing the purchase, Azek says it remains dedicated to accelerating the use of recycled materials and scrap used to manufacture its premium outdoor living products.

“The acquisition of Northwest Polymers, combined with our recently announced advanced recycling acquisition in Indiana, positions Azek for the next phase of our recycling journey, expanding our geographic reach and ensuring a consistent and cost-efficient supply chain,” Singh says.

Bill Waltz, president and CEO of Northwest Polymers parent company Atkore Inc., says Atkore continually reviews the strategic direction of all aspects of its business, including potential acquisitions and divestitures, and the sale of Northwest Polymers “aligns with our disciplined approach to capital allocation and our commitment to drive value creation for our shareholders.”

In 2022, Harvey, Illinois-based Atkore acquired two separate but related Oregon-based companies doing business as Northwest Polymers and Cascade Poly Pipe & Conduit, a manufacturer specializing in smooth wall high-density polyethylene (HDPE) conduit. Atkore says the sale of Northwest Polymers does not impact its continued operations for the HDPE product, which primarily serves telecommunications, utility and datacom markets.
