Azek diverts more than 25 million pounds of scrap from landfills

The company’s pavers are made from up to 95 percent recycled materials.

Azek, Scranton, Pennsylvania, has announced is surpassed a landmark total of diverting more than 25 million pounds of scrap from landfills since its introduction in 2007 through the production of Azek pavers.

Made from up to 95 percent recycled materials, Azek pavers have repurposed more than 1.4 million truck tires and more than 42 million plastic containers.

"Each year, billions of plastic containers are produced in the U.S., and more than half of them end up in landfills," says Jason Grommon, president of CPG Building Products. "Here at Azek, for every 1,000 square feet of our standard pavers, we save 15,000 gallon-sized plastic containers from heading to the landfill. Likewise, with more than 300 million scrap tires generated annually, Azek paver production keeps 500 tires out of U.S. landfills for every 1,000 square-feet of standard pavers."

But Azek pavers' environmental advantages aren't just in their recycled content. During production, they consume 94 percent less energy, require zero water consumption and emit 96 percent less CO2 as compared to concrete paver production, the company says. With the manufacturing of concrete products responsible for up to 10 percent of all CO2 emissions worldwide, concrete production is one of the largest climate change culprits.

Available in five colors, and three paver sizes, Azek pavers are designed to install up to three times faster than traditional pavers. The stain, impact and scratch-resistant pavers are perfect for DIY-projects, with no special tools required for installation, the company says.
