Amsterdam-based Avantium N.V., which specializes in renewable and circular polymer materials, recently launched the Releaf brand name for its plant-based and recyclable PEF (polyethylene furanoate) polymer.
Avantium says Releaf is set to help transform the plastics industry, providing sustainable and superior solutions for bottles, packaging and textiles. Releaf stands for relieving the planet from fossil plastics by plant-based solutions, which the company says is symbolized in the logo’s leaf. Additionally, the company defines Releaf as embracing the principles of recycling, renewing and rethinking. To mark the launch of the Releaf brand, Avantium has unveiled the official Releaf website.
RELATED: Tapping into PEF’s potential
Earlier this month, Releaf PEF was showcased at Dutch Design Week, an annual event held in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Avantium says the event is the largest of its type in Northern Europe, featuring the work and ideas of more than 2,600 designers from around the world and attracting more than 300,000 visitors.
Avantium says it partnered with the Hoogvliet Jongerius design studio to “highlight the beauty and versatility of the Releaf plant-based plastic PEF.” For this year’s Dutch Design Week, Avantium and Hoogvliet Jongerius created an installation, “From Plants to Plastics,” that highlighted the origins and benefits of Releaf while also showcasing its artistic potential. Avantium adds that the collaboration explored the diverse applications of Releaf plant-based plastic, from films and sheets to yarns, creating distinctive textures and structures.
“Working with Releaf has been an eye-opening experience,” says Nienke Hoogvliet of Hoogvliet Jongerius. “We’ve been able to push the boundaries of what’s possible with sustainable materials, creating pieces that are not just eco-friendly, but truly beautiful.”
Jean Lai, marketing and branding manager at Avantium, says the company is proud to launch the Releaf brand that embodies a commitment to sustainability.
“Releaf offers a sustainable alternative for bottles, packaging and textiles,” Lai says. “We are equally thrilled to collaborate with Hoogvliet Jongerius for this year’s Dutch Design Week. Their creative vision and expertise have allowed us to showcase the beauty and versatility of Releaf, demonstrating that sustainable materials can be both functional and aesthetically stunning.”
