Houston-based Ascend Performance Materials has launched a portfolio of materials called ReDefyne, sustainable polyamides created with up to 100 percent pre and postconsumer recycled Nylon (PA) 66 or Nylon 6 to provide a low carbon footprint and reliable performance.
Ascend says ReDefyne products are third-party certified and will aid in its goal to reduce the carbon footprint of its products and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2030.
The company has also announced that ReDefyne materials will be used in a partnership with Germany-based ITW Global Fasteners, a producer of plastic and metal fastener components for the automotive industry. Ascend will work with ITW to pilot blockchain traceability according to the UNI EN 15343 through Plastic Finder’s Certified Circular Plastic program.
Utilized in the E.U., the program is a transcription system that uses blockchain technology to create a record of material transactions to ensure accuracy and transparency along the entire recycling chain.
“With ReDefyne, ITW is producing fasteners with a considerably lower carbon footprint,” Ascend Sales Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa Christelle Staller says. “ITW and Ascend both believe that sustainability requires accountability and are excited to pilot Certified Circular Plastic’s blockchain traceability program.”
