Xcel Energy has extended its contract with Appliance Recycling Centers of America Inc. (ARCA) to provide refrigerator recycling services for the utility's residential electric customers in Colorado and New Mexico through December 31, 2010. In addition, Xcel Energy's residential electric customers in Minnesota will also be able to participate in the program in 2010.
Through the program, Xcel Energy customers in Colorado, New Mexico or Minnesota who turn in old, operating refrigerator will be eligible to receive a $35.00 incentive check. The incentive, to be paid by Minneapolis-based Xcel Energy, is designed to offset the costs normally incurred when disposing of an old refrigerator, often in favor of a new and more energy efficient model.
"We have enjoyed providing turnkey appliance recycling services for Xcel Energy and are extremely pleased that the program was extended into 2010,” says Edwards Cameron, Minneapolis-based ARCA’s president and CEO.
Xcel Energy's Minnesota recycling program will be ARCA's sixth utility-sponsored appliance recycling program in Minnesota.
