Speira, a Germany-based aluminum rolling and recycling company owned by U.S.-based KPS Capital Partners, has joined a consortium called Alumobility, which says is “committed to advancing the adoption of aluminum with automakers.”
Speira consists of German and Norwegian facilities that had formerly been owned and operated by Norway-based Norsk Hydro ASA. The seven facilities were purchased by KPS in June of 2021.
Speira says it “stands for the circularity of production, using and recycling, again and again," and adds, "By using at least 75 percent recycled external scrap, we greatly reduce energy consumption without compromising on quality.”
In its new role within Alumbolity, Speira becomes one of three full members, joining founding aluminum producers France-based Constellium and Atlanta-based Novelis.
Switzerland-based Alumobility also has announced the addition of the Germany-based Fischer Group as a new associate member. Alumobility describes the firm as “a leader in aluminum hot forming innovation, which provides new freedom in the design of lightweight yet strong automotive components.”
When it comes to sustainability, Alumobility refers to aluminum as having “properties that offer recyclability while simultaneously providing lightweight fuel efficiency, and says aluminum is “fully recyclable, meaning it has the potential to endure endless vehicle life cycles. In fact, more than 90 percent of a vehicle’s aluminum can be recovered and recycled, creating a highly sustainable path forward.”
In addition to its new members, Alumobility also has announced updates to its leadership structure, which can be found here.Latest from Recycling Today
