Alter Trading Acquires Miller Compressing

Deal expands Alter’s processing capabilities in the Wisconsin area.

Alter Trading Corp., a privately held scrap metal processor headquartered in St. Louis, has announced the acquisition of Miller Compressing Co., a scrap metal recycling firm based in Milwaukee.

Alter, which is ISO 9001 and 14001 certified, says it is the largest metal recycling company in Wisconsin, as well as one of the largest metal recycling companies in North America.

“We are pleased to welcome Miller Compressing into the Alter family,” says Robert Goldstein, chairman, CEO and president of Alter Trading Corp. “Their long history and strong reputation in the industry, combined with our companies’ shared values of integrity, quality, safety and customer service, make them a natural fit for Alter. In addition, Miller Compressing’s expanded processing capabilities, including an aluminum furnace, heavy media processing and electronic recycling, enable us to deliver additional value for our customers.”

Miller Compressing has more than 125 years of expertise in the metal recycling business and is the largest scrap metal recycling company in the Milwaukee area.

With the addition of the five Miller Compressing recycling locations, Alter Trading now operates 16 processing locations in Wisconsin and a total of 43 metal recycling facilities in the United States.

Alter says it will keep the Miller Compressing name, which is well-recognized and well-respected in Wisconsin. The operation will be called Miller Compressing Co., a subsidiary of Alter Trading Corp.

In addition to metal recycling plants, Alter, founded in 1898, has five trading offices in eight states as well as having a representative sales office in Hong Kong.
