ADG Solutions, Stone Mountain, Georgia, the exclusive North American distributor for Break Machinery Srl of Grantorto, Italy, says the Duo double-filter system, which allows high productivity while guaranteeing a high-quality end product, is available to plastics recyclers throughout North America.

Break Machinery offers a complete range of filtration equipment that now covers applications from 1,000 pounds per hour to 24,000 pounds per hour. The Duo self-cleaning double filter systems offer high productivity with the ability to produce high-quality melt from contaminated sources, ADG says. This new double-screen design can be used for fine or coarse filtration with heavy contamination.

“We are continually looking to find the best equipment solutions to enhance our portfolio we provide to our customers,” ADG President Sandy Guthrie says. “Taking the best-quality machinery and marrying that with our advanced industry knowledge allows us to help our customers transform plastic scrap into high-value raw material.”

The geometry of Duo’s scraper disc and the contamination discharge system allow contamination to be removed in a rapid and controlled manner with less waste, ADG adds.

Duo’s two perforated discs (or breakers) increase its filtering area and production volume, according to the company. The scraper disc, placed between the two filters, has blades on both sides and rotates to remove contamination from both surfaces. In addition, its geometry prevents filtered contaminants from reentering the melt and ensures excellent cleaning even at low rotation speeds. The constant cleaning of the filter surfaces allows them to be used for longer than those on conventional systems.

Impurities are discharged using a single screw. The system is designed to filter various types of plastic materials with high percentages of impurities (up to 15 percent by weight) such as paper, wood, aluminum, copper, etc.

Using two filters also enables reducing the filtration chamber’s size, ADG says of Duo, which was manufactured using high-quality alloy steel and anti-wear treatments in the most stressed parts to guarantee high resistance to line pressures of up to 350 bar.

The complete Duo line includes new models such as the 5600 and 7000 Twin, which consist of two Duo screen changers of the same size running in parallel for uninterrupted production during screen changes.
