Vecoplan Receives Patent for Mobile Document and Product Destruction System

Manufacturer receives third patent on its line of shred trucks.

Vecoplan LLC , High Point, N.C., was issued U.S. Patent No. 7,757,987 July 20, 2010, for its VST-42e mobile document and product destruction system. According to the company, the patent, the third patent awarded to Vecoplan on its line of shred trucks, relates specifically to the onboard electric shredding system and its ability to operate whether or not the shred truck is running.

When the truck is running, a PTO- (power-take-off-) driven, 180-kilo-vol- amperes generator powers the shredder, or the truck engine can be shut down and the shredder can be plugged into three-phase industrial power and operated as a plant-based system.

QuickLink is the trade name that Vecoplan uses to designate the plug-and-play docking technology. Other features, exclusive to the VST-42e shred truck, include Vecoplan’s TaskMaster Application Management System and large throughput capacity, the company says.

The TaskMaster, part of the HMI touch-screen control panel, is designed to optimize the shredding process for a range of materials, according to Vecoplan. With five built-in programs, the application management system has settings for high volumes of paper; tapes, pill bottles, credit cards and other plastics; books, file stock and banker’s boxes; uniforms and textiles; and hard drives and other electronic devices.

The VST-42e features a throughput capacity of between 6,000 to 7,000 pounds plus per hour, according to Vecoplan.

The company asserts that green aspects of its design make the VST-42e a lower-carbon-footprint shredding machine. It runs on ultra-low-sulfur diesel and is B5 biodiesel-compatible for lower greenhouse gas emissions. Running off the PTO, the truck uses half the diesel as a traditional PTO-driven hydraulic shredder system, and when plugged into a plant’s power it uses no diesel, Vecoplan says. Additionally, by eliminating 94 percent of the hydraulic fluid needed on the truck, the VST-42e decreases the possibility and impact of a hazardous materials spill, plus the hassle of recycling hydraulic fluid during maintenance, according to the company.
