The Gold Standard

Lollini makes a winning impression on a Golden State scrap company with its AL4060 baler.

Oakland, Calif.’s Custom Alloy Scrap Sales Inc. (CASS) is a diverse operation with diverse needs to match. Active in the booming nonferrous market as a maker of secondary aluminum ingots, CASS also recycles steel, which is where the Lollini R&M AL4060 baler has proven its mettle since its installation in early 2006.

The AL4060 has impressed CASS Operations Manager Steven Ybarra by processing around 120,000 pounds of steel per day, often within one 10-hour shift. "It’s a workhorse," he says.

The baler is the first Lollini machine CASS has purchased, at least, the first so far, says Ybarra. But the Lollini name was not new to CASS when the company was looking to purchase a scrap baler to make steel bundles or briquettes from its medium grade steel scrap, including steel barrels, galvanized plating and steel plating. Ybarra says word of mouth encouraged the company to look into Lollini equipment, and he’s been pleased with the results.

The steel bundles produced by the Lollini baler are exported around the world and to local foundries. In addition to the productivity, the AL4060’s versatility has impressed Ybarra. "You can actually move it from one department to another," Ybarra says. He says the machine is small enough to transport using a flatbed trailer. "It’s small, but powerful," Ybarra says. "And we have the option of picking it up and moving it."

Lollini has also impressed this Golden State customer with its follow-up service. Ybarra says, "We’ve had a few small parts that have gone down, like fuses or other components CASS does not have on-hand, and Lollini has taken care of it overnight, no questions asked."

Lollini has also sent technicians out right away to address problems that a quick part shipment can’t solve, according to Ybarra. "They’ve been really responsive," he says.
