Innovation: The lifeblood of Machinex
Early Machinex innovations included the MACH One Series, which quickly was followed by the deployment of the world-renowned MACH ballistic separators™.
By introducing the high-capacity single-ram extrusion balers, Machinex demonstrated that a machine offering the efficiencies this type of baler delivers could be built in North America and provide tremendous cost efficiency. The two-ram balers continued to revolutionize the meaning of turnkey system delivery and performance.
Today, Machinex has technologists throughout the company, with engineers in nearly every department. “Our R&D (research and development) team is continuously pursuing new technologies and refining our existing equipment to improve effectiveness and efficiency,” says Pierre Pare, president and CEO of Machinex.
The MACH Hyspec® line of optical separators was the first advanced technology solution Machinex offered the recycling industry followed by the SamurAI® sorting robot, powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
“As sorting technology experts, we strive to provide innovative equipment with superior performance. Achieving extremely high recovery and purity rates for recyclables is essential for our customers,” Pare says.
Advanced technology
As sorting systems increase in capacity, Machinex is opening the door to interconnectivity among components for optimal MRF operations. AI and vision systems are being integrated into MACH Hyspec® units. Meanwhile, the company’s advanced MACH INTELL™ platform provides real-time material performance analytics and much more.
“The processing of recyclables is becoming more complex all the time. Increased tonnage throughput requirements combined with more complex materials streams and the demand for higher purity of recovered commodities creates a much more demanding environment,” says Executive Vice President David Marcouiller.
“We know advancing recycling requires the application of advanced technology,” he adds, “As a result, we’ve made massive commitments to technology development.”
In 2020, Machinex opened its Techno Hub—a facility that sits at the heart of the Machinex campus in Plessisville, Quebec. The facility houses not only the research and development engineers but also a testing laboratory. The automation and controls team, as well as design engineers, also are based there, and the facility boasts a demonstration area for customers.
