Spike TV, New York, is debuting what it calls a new “comedic reality series” about scrap metal collectors on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 10 p.m. Eastern and Pacific times.
“Scrappers,” says the cable network, is “set in the take-no-prisoners world of the Brooklyn scrap metal business.”
According to a news release sent by the network, 10 episodes of the series have been produced. It will air weekly but will debut with two half-hour episodes shown back-to-back Aug. 3.
“Spike is along for the ride as three real Brooklyn scrap metal crews search for their own piece of the scrap prize,” states the Spike news release. “In each episode, these real-life competitors and friends will find treasure in tons of twisted metal and test their relationships on the search for the big score.”
The show’s publicity materials describe it as “a workplace comedy like viewers have never seen it, set in one tough office—the streets of Brooklyn—where every day is a battle to make a buck. Our heroes scour the streets to find their treasure, from old appliances to abandoned cars and discarded building materials.”

The show’s protagonists include Frankie Noots, who Spike TV says “heads up the Scrappers USA crew from the front seat of his beat-up van. Among Brooklyn scrappers, Noots is known as the ‘don of scrap.’” Rounding out Frankie’s crew, according to the cable network, are “smooth-talking negotiator Joe Posa and the goof-prone assistant Darren, who can often be found throwing away the good metal and keeping the trash.
Another duo collecting scrap consists of “Sal the Barber [of] P&F Service and Removal, who is training to become an MMA (mixed martial arts) fighter in between scrap runs. Greg is Sal’s right-hand man on the job and in the ring as his MMA training partner.”
A third team being followed by the Spike camera crews consists of Mimmo and Dino, the Mad Scrappers. “The smallest and most slapdash of the crews, Mimmo and Dino are two stooges [who] have a workday that starts and ends ‘whenever!’ They have to rent a van every day to go looking for scrap metal, so they start each day $80 in the hole,” according to Spike TV.
“Scrappers” was filmed entirely on location in Brooklyn and features the neighborhoods of Bayridge, Bensonhurst, Canarsie, Coney Island, East New York, Gravesend, Greenpoint, Midwood, Park Slope, Rockaway and Sheepshead Bay.
According to Debra Fazio, one of the show’s publicists, “Gershow Recycling is prominently featured in our series as one of the scrap yards the collectors visit.” The Medford, N.Y.-based scrap processing company operates a location in Brooklyn.
