Standing at more than 200, the number of auto shredders in the U.S. may have come close to reaching a plateau. Very few automobiles are going unrecycled, and the installation of “super-sized” shredders in several markets is resulting in fewer shredders accomplishing the shredding task.
Internationally, the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), Brussels, reports that other parts of the world are adding to their auto shredding capacity, with many new nations joining the ranks of auto shredding since Recycling Today last published its list in 1995.
